C. JEMULO

The anti-idiomatic music

Luca Atzori

When it comes to more complex musical styles like jazz, or fusion, it is easy to experience a phenomenon so widespread and naturalized, as irritant, which is the enhancement of performance alone. The comments that follow certain jam sessions are often addressed to the speed with which the musician moves his hand, or knowledge of the stairs, so the whole set of technical elements contribute to the artistic aspect of most wanted, (and even irrelevant) by inflating the ignorance of the listeners.
not be neglected then, the whole body of music for the market, which is playing a role of ornament of propaganda, that the era of so-called "reproduction" can be considered as a dominant value.
But there is a musical tradition that pays for the task of going beyond these principles (assigned by some kind of subtle and ineffable entity legislating), and that of anti-music idiom.
An example is Chris Iemulo in Turin, was born in Syracuse in 1978, graduated from DAMS in Bologna and active in music for almost twenty years (during which he studied with people like Charles Mason, Phil Singer, Markus Stockhausen, etc.) .
We can say that Chris Iemulo has begun to distance itself from a tradition that regards the Western music, which is seen confined within certain patterns, tonal possibilities in the one closed and limited to only twelve notes, jumping back three hundred years and trying to retrace the path initiated by composers such as Schoenberg, Webern, Stockhausen, and he walked beyond the barriers of equal temperament.
Both the pop music as the most sought, in fact, always fall within the categories gestalt whole that must be balanced and sequential.
When you come into contact with the music of Chris Iemulo you can have the first hand impression of not understand it, even if the anti-idiomatic music, paradoxically, puts a hand lens, or to generate new variations that are able to divert 'attention by technology, and are therefore far from the desire to provoke awe in the listener.

The music is very anti-idiomatic (and here again paradoxically) idiom, but in the negative, because it brings together all the languages. His conception of music goes beyond the strictly Enlightenment. Could be approached for his impromptu, then the artistic movement avant-garde was born in the sixties who was known as Fluxus, because there is basically nothing but a stream of consciousness, but never falls into the temptation to sink to any cost in a culture of bad (simplistic way, and beaten by many).
Iemulo Chris is currently playing with a collective ensemble that has as goal to develop a community vision of art, where even the individual find their own space and at the same time, through improvisation, is able to harness the power of music creative tools and personal, trying to realize a music based primarily on a research as an artist (and about transversality Iemulo Chris works for the theater with the theater company Eidos).

If there is a way of making music, so why is there a need first of all existence, without pretending to say it's nothing new, nothing strange about it, but with the hope of being able to give dignity ' art, and with it everything that concerns an artistic ideal that we go and perhaps forgetting that now requires more strength and motivation.
